Adopting a Recycling Mindset

More and more of our customers are beginning to take a long-term approach to how they plan, film, and take photos. Rather than capturing footage purely for the project pending right now, they’re starting to ask questions like:

>> How recyclable will this footage be in the future?
‍

This shift in thinking changes everything. It encourages content teams to evaluate the long-term value of what they capture, make small adjustments that can expand reusability greatly, and build a secure corporate video archive that delivers real return on investment over time. In a world where in-house content teams are under pressure to create more with less, adopting a recycling mindset is one of the smartest ways to maximise value and increase team productivity.

Start by Identifying Whether the Footage Has Long-Term Value

Before you film anything, ask: >> Is this a short-term or a long-term asset we are about to go shoot?

1. Short-term assets

Event footage, time-sensitive campaigns, one-off social content. These are often single-use pieces that are useful in the moment but with limited shelf life.
‍

2. Long-term assets

Product pack shots, key customer use-cases, b-roll that represents your brand well (drone shots, people at work, factory footage, etc.).

When you decide which category something falls into, it becomes much easier to allocate the right production quality and resources. High-value, evergreen assets are worth capturing more carefully because they will live inside your cloud-based video and stills library for years with multi-use lifespan.

‍

Ask Whether the Footage Is Recyclable and Multi-Purpose

A helpful question during planning is: >> Will this be useful for multiple future projects?
Footage like this can become the backbone of your source footage stored in the cloud. This can be material your team can return to repeatedly when they need high-quality visuals for future projects.

Capture Variations While You Already Have the Setting

If you already have the location, lighting, people, products, or gear assembled, it may be worth capturing additional variations that will save you time later.

  • Filming the same setup with different combinations of people
  • Capturing both wide shots and close-ups
  • Recording alternate products or more generic options
  • Shooting clean versions without branded elements or people
    ‍
Real world Example: "One of our customers recently did exactly this. They gathered a group of employees for a specific shoot, but realised they’d need almost identical footage six months later with a different combination of staff/departments. Instead of staging a second shoot, they captured both versions in one session, saving them time, budget, and effort."

Building a Recyclable Archive

When your content team adopts this long-term approach, you naturally build a stronger, more useful, and more valuable corporate video and stills archive. Over time, you end up with:

  1. A deeper pool of evergreen b-roll footage
  2. Cleaner footage that can be used across multiple projects
  3. Higher-quality assets stored at full resolution for the entire team to use
  4. A compliant video storage setup where rights and release forms are stored togehter
  5. A huge library of source footage you can search, tag, and scrub effortlessly
